At this time (June 2014), my regular commitments keep me busy enough that I’ve decided to discontinue this availability calendar. There are just a few things to be aware of:
- I try to keep around 8 hours per week open for new work: sample jobs, small things for grad students, quick reviews, etc. I don’t need to, but I like to be able to see (and learn) new and different things on a continuing basis (for one recent job, I had a matter of days to become a virtual expert on real estate inspections and on the neighborhoods in a metro area which I’ve never visited; for another I had to learn a tremendous amount about accident statistics for a personal injury law project).
- I’m not accepting rush jobs from new customers without advance notice. If you have a rush job coming, talk to me in advance (a week or two) and I’ll try to make room. If you ask me at the last minute, I’ll probably decline. Existing customers should try to do the same, whenever possible.
- Certain days of the week are better than others to hit me with new work and expect rapid turn around. Mondays, for example, were impossible this spring. But my commitments shift every few months. This summer is still unsettled, although it looks like Wednesdays and Fridays could be problematic until October and August, respectively.
Don’t be put off: I’m always willing to take a look at new projects. If I’ve got the expertise and the time to complete one, I’ll jump right in. If I’m not qualified or can’t make the time, I’ll let you know as quickly as possible.
